Linear Motion – DC Linear Brush Motors from H2W Technologies

H2W Technologies

Product Info:
Travel – 1 to 120 inches [0.025 to 3 m]
Velocity – 1 to 100 inches/sec [0.025 to 2.5 m/s]
Acceleration -  0.1 to 12 G’s 0.1 to 12 G’s
Peak Force -  12 to 207 lbs [53 to 920 N]

The DC brush linear motor is ideal for long stroke, open or closed loop servo, linear motion applications. They can be used at speeds up to 100 in / sec [2.5 m / sec] and as low as 1 in/sec [25 mm / sec]. They are capable of very precise position, velocity and acceleration control when coupled with a linear encoder.

The motor is commutated using brushes on the moving permanent magnet secondary in conjunction with a stationary commutator bar on the coil assembly. This results in only the coils directly beneath the secondary with current flowing in them.

The short moving brush assembly is magnetically attracted to the long stationary laminated coil assembly. A customer supplied bearing system is required to guide the moving secondary and to maintain a .025” [0.63 mm] gap between the secondary and the coil assembly.

The power to the motor (from a customer supplied PWM DC servo amplifier) is supplied to the moving secondary via a power cable. The resultant force is proportional to the input current.

The low overall height (1.65” [41.9 mm]) of the brush motor allows it to fit into a very compact space The low moving mass of the secondary allows for higher accelerations of light payloads.

The motor comes in different widths and secondary lengths to meet different force and packaging requirements.

Advantages:
Low profile and small cross section
Available in many different widths and lengths
High Acceleration of light loads
High Speed
Uses low cost PWM amplifier

Applications:

Pick and Place Machines
Coordinate measuring machines
Parts transfer
Inspection Machines

The Linear Brush Motor consists of 2 main parts

Long Stationary Coil Assembly: The laminated motor stacks are insulated and bonded together. The copper coils are inserted into insulated slots in the stack. The ends of the coils are brought out and soldered to the commutator bar. An aluminum mounting angle and a mounting bar are bolted to each side of the lamination stack. Threaded mounting holes in the angle or “T” nuts are available to mount the coil assembly to the customer supplied base plate. The coil assembly is available in widths from 2.0″ to 5.0 ” [50 mm to 125 mm]. The length of the coil assembly is a function of the stroke. Single piece motors are available as long as 144 inches [3.6 m]. Longer motors will be made in sections.

Short Moving Secondary Assembly: The secondary is made of nickel plated steel with permanent magnets bonded to bottom. A PCB with brushholders and brushes soldered on, is mechanically attached to the side of the secondary. Mounting holes are provided for attaching the secondary to the moving member of the customer supplied table assembly. The secondary comes in different widths and lengths, depending on the required force. Multiple secondaries can be supplied with a single coil assembly to allow for independent moving heads or they can be coupled together to produce larger forces. The standard lengths for the secondaries are 4.38″ for BRA motors and 9.56″ for BRB motors.

H2W Technologies

Santa Clarita, CA — A New high precision, high speed two axis voice coil positioning stage featuring 0.1 micron resolution encoders for high accuracy and repeatability is available from H2W Technologies. “Voice coil” or “Moving coil” motors are recognized for their low moving mass and high acceleration/deceleration. Therefore voice coil driven positioning stages are ideal for short stroke, closed loop, applications requiring high resolution, and high acceleration/deceleration control. Typical applications can include: Semiconductor testing and assembly, inspection and test, laser micromachining, and applications in research laboratories, and manufacturing, medical, and defense industries.

This compact two axis voice coil driven positioning stage (shown) features a 25 mm x 25 mm (1 in. x 1 in.) stroke, high precision cross roller stages, and two voice coil actuators in parallel driving the bottom stage to double the load and acceleration/deceleration capabilities. Continuous force (top axis) is 10.2 N (2.3 lbs) and 30,7 N (6.9 lbs) peak. The bottom axis has a continuous force of 20.5 N (4.6 lbs) and 61.4 N (13.8 lbs) peak. This two axis positioning stage can be driven with standard DC servo or DC linear amplifiers and a two-axis programmable motion controller.

Pre drilled mounting holes in the base and stage allow for easy installation in new or existing applications. Additionally, voice coil stages are available with strokes of 6.4 mm (0.25 in.) to 76 mm (3.0 in.) and with continuous force to 445 N (100 lbs), peek to 1335 N (300 lbs). Limited Angle Torque Motors Feature High Acceleration and Ripple Free Motion!

H2W Torquers

H2W Technologies

Santa Clarita, CA – Limited Angle Torque Motors or “Torquers” as they are commonly referred to are the rotary actuator of choice when high torque, high acceleration, extremely smooth motion, high reliability, and high precision are required. H2W Technologies manufacturers “Torquers” that have applications from below sea level to outer space. These single phase, brushless, low profile motors, vacuum compatible to 10^5 torr, are ideal for: Operating valves, control surfaces on submersible watercraft, aerospace fin actuation, precision ball screw rotation, and positioning laser reflecting mirrors.

Standard and custom design “Torquers” manufactured by H2W Technologies include, miniature 1.4 Ncm continuous, torque 5.2 Ncm peak torque (2 oz-in., 6 oz/in.) motors and powerful 706 Ncm continuous torque, 2118 5.2 Ncm peak (1000 oz-in. continuous torque, 3000 oz-in. peak) motors.

Available in kit and housed styles, H2W Technologies limited angle torque motors come in two distinct series to meet diverse application requirements. The MR series of limited angle torque motors feature a toroidally wound iron core stator with 2, 4, or 6 pole permanent magnet rotors. This series provides angular excursions (rotation) to 180O and typically is supplied in kit form to be directly mounted to the drive shaft of an application. By modifying the stator windings angular excursions greater than 180O can be realized.

The WR series is an arc segmented multi-pole permanent magnet stator motor with a low inertia copper magnet wire rotor for excursions less than 90O. Additionally the WR series of “Torquers” are available in standard and low profile versions

Torquer options are kit motors, and housed motors which incorporate: Bearings, shafts, housings, provisions for encoders, and custom mountings. A matching Linear servo amplifier and complete plug-and-play systems are available.

Linear Motion – Lower Cost Moving Magnet Designs from H2W Technologies!

Santa Clarita, CA —– Typically a Linear Motion H2W Moving Magnet Actuator has precision bushings and shaft which cause the moving magnet design to be cost prohibitive. However not every customer requires a bushing with high tolerance precision, and thus H2W has the ability to modify the linear bearing systems of our voice coil designs to accommodate a lower cost bushing and shaft. The pictured actuator has a custom shaft and housing to accommodate a customer’s specific cost, envelope, and shaft requirements

Voice Coil Actuators are typically for applications requiring short strokes, however, H2W offers varying strokes from their stock actuators and can modify any of these models with a short lead time to accommodate many specification modifications. Additionally, typically voice coil actuators have been intended for low force applications, however H2W Technologies offers forces up to and exceeding 100 pounds of continuous force and 300 pounds of peak force at 10% Duty Cycle.

The moving magnet style actuator is provided with supplied internal bushings and a hardened steel shaft or hard anodized aluminum shaft. H2W currently stocks actuators up to 3 inches of stroke, and has built moving magnet actuators with a stroke as long as 5 inches, and up to 12 inches can be built upon request.

The NCM10-14-028-2BX is an example of one our lower cost moving magnet motor designs. – Click here for additional information.
